Mary Sotera joined Cavitch, Familo & Durkin as a shareholder in January 2020.
Mary brings with her an extensive background in family law and helps clients navigate the complications related to premarital planning; marriage termination; spousal support; care, custody and allocation of parental rights; adoption; guardianship; mediation; parent coordinating. She has been involved in all aspects of pre-marital and pre-living together planning and has drafted agreements and trusts related to living together.
Mary has practiced in the juvenile, domestic, general division, and appellate courts in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Geauga, Medina, Summit, Portage, Ashland, Stark, Lake, and Ashtabula counties.
To complement her family law practice Mary has completed mediation training as well as specialized training in domestic relations and domestic violence. She has also attained guardian ad litem training and certification as well as parenting coordinator training and certification.
In addition to her family law practice Mary is also a member of Cavitch’s litigation practice. There she provides her experience in both civil and commercial litigation.
Mary received her J.D. from Cleveland‐Marshall College of Law. Her Bar admissions include the states of Ohio and Florida. She also has admission before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Mary is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association as well as the Justinian Forum.
Mary is proficient in Italian and Spanish.
